Sunday Sweets: A Disney Movie Marathon

It's time for a Disney Movie Sweets Marathon!

Let's kick it off with a few classics, shall we?

(By CW reader Brittnee W., who's in culinary school!)

Cinderella's helpers really did have great taste; her original pink dress just doesn't get enough love these days, which is why I especially love this cake! The trailing "threads" and blue beads are a great touch.

And who here remembers the Aristocats?

Ok, I admit it: I honestly don't remember ever watching this movie. o.0 Oh, I bet it’s on Disney Plus! Anyhoo, regardless, these characters look like collectible porcelain statues - and that bridge on the bottom tier? AMAZING.

Here's a newer classic, and a personal favorite:

Tangled!

Take a sec to really look at all those details, guys. The little bunnies! The moss on the stones! The individual shingles! I've got a dream, and it involves that tower under a big glass dome on my desk.

This next cake's badness level is at ZERO:

Yep, any alien experiment bringing me a cupcake is A-Ok in my book.
(Also digging Stitch's lil' nose wrinkle.)

Timon and Pumba, on the other hand, have a slightly more questionable offering:

Bug cake? Gee, guys, you shouldn't have.

Another classic movie, paired with some truly ingenious cake design:

(And thanks to @EchoGalfas for helping me track down the world's most elusive cake!)

Can we talk about that globe encircling the apple? And the evil witch sculpted over the glass? GENIUS, I tell you. And that's not even mentioning the hand-painted cottage, or the 3D sculpted Dwarves nestled in roses!

That's a tough act to follow, but I think this Frozen beauty just might manage:

At what point does your brain just short-out from the staggering amount of talent in these cakes? 'Cuz mine's long gone, and we still have four more cakes to go!

When John and I visited Disneyland, one of my favorite parts of the park was the giant whale's mouth you sail through during the Storybook Land Canal Boats. It's based on Monstro from Pinocchio, of course, but I never thought I'd see him in cake form!

As impressive as Monstro is, I've gotta point out those waves, too. Frothy perfection.

For obvious reasons, I have a certain... affinity... with Ralph here:

Nice to see he hasn't wrecked this cake, though!

(Though you must admit, a Wreck-It-Ralph Cake Wreck would be deliciously ironic.)

I'm going to end with two my favorite movies.

First, the queen of Poor Unfortunate Souls herself:

(By Christian Giardina)

Took me a second to spot them, but Flotsam and Jetsam are in there, too!

And finally, I couldn't find an Iago cake to feature, so instead, here's the most jaw-dropping Aladdin masterpiece I have ever seen:

And for all I know, Iago IS in there; there are so many tiny details, I'm still finding new things to look at!

Well, I don't know about you guys, but I'm seriously jonesing for some Disney movies now. That, and cake, of course. ;) Hope you guys have a great Sunday!

Deep Thoughts

There's something about staring at wrecks for a while that makes me start thinking...

Deep Thoughts.
You know, stuff like:

Is it true cannibals won't eat clowns because they taste funny?

linns.ow.deadclowns.jpg

And why don't sheep shrink when it rains?

marcosg.ow.easterlambdisplay.jpg

Ever wonder what color Smurfs turn when they're choked?

kathrynpre.lw.smurfccc.jpg

Or if a cow laughs, does milk come out of her nose?

katie_falk.ow.cows.jpg

And can a cow be lactose intolerant?

Why don't they make mouse-flavored cat food?

christinecar.lw.rodentkillerbday.jpg

(Don't they have the guts?)

Do frogs have to wait an hour after eating before they get out of the water?

kristenpow.ow.suggestivefrogcccwithpoobutterflies.jpg

Because this guy already looks a little cramped.

When sign makers go on strike, what do they write on their signs?

hurtado.susanyahoo.com.ow.blanksheets.jpg

(          ,         !)

And why isn't phonetic spelled the way it sounds?

catharine.ow.congratulationsmisspell.jpg

While we're at it, how come "monosyllabic" isn't?

Oh, and what if there weren't any hypothetical questions?

aimeeh.ow.misspell.jpg

Glup!

You know, the other thing staring at cake wrecks does is make me want to take a nap.
I'll do that while you think about this stuff, OK?

Profound thanks to Linn S., Marcos G., Kathryn P., Katie F., Christine C., Kristen P., Susan H., Catharine, and Aimee H. for seeing the deep philosophical meaning behind these wrecks, and to my Mom and Dad for sending me the e-mail that got me started down this path.

P.S. In case this post wasn't painful enough:

Exceptionally Bad Dad Jokes

There are a lot of "dad joke" books out there, but this one has awesome ratings AND the word "spiffing" on the cover, so it's a clear winner.
